Donald Earl Nichols

73, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Thursday, November 29th at IU Health University Hospital. Don was born on August 23, 1939 to Homer and Hazel (Caufield) Nichols. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ronald Nichols.

Don worked as Sales Engineer for the Air-Temp Division of Chrysler Corporation. He served as District Manager for the Frigidaire Company in their White Westinghouse division where he received recognition as top salesman throughout most of his career. His sales position with Chrysler took him on business trips to Turkey, Greece and Puerto Rico. Don was an avid reader of American History. In retirement he enjoyed daily readings of history and biographies, most concerned with the Civil War.

He enjoyed a life-long love of animals and will be remembered as a man of faith who loved helping others, showing great compassion and generosity.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judith (DellaPenna) Nichols, sons Jeff Nichols, Tennessee, Matthew Henninger (Amy), Indianapolis, daughters Donna Nichols Gunn (Matt), Julie Nichols Winters (Nick) and Victoria Henninger Hendley (Scott), Indianapolis, step mother Alice Nichols, his sister Patty Brown (Bill) and sisters-in-law Beverly Nichols, Barbara Scroggins (Ike) and brother-in-law Frank DellaPenna (Stephanie Orteleva). He will be fondly remembered by all of his loving family including many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 3rd from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oakley Hammond Funeral Home , 5342 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46219. Church services will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church with the Reverend George Henninger officiating at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4th with one hour visitation prior to service. Arrangements are entrusted to Oakley Hammond Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank Eugene P. Ceppa, MD and the nursing staff at IU Health for their care and guidance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scecina Memorial High School, 5000 Nowland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46201.
