Canton, Massachusetts - Doris Mae Woods Hicks, a long-time resident of Indianapolis and widow of Rev. Luther Hicks (d.1990), was called home to rest by her Heavenly Father on June 27, 2018 at 89 years old. Born August 20, 1928 in Chicago, IL, Doris was one of nine siblings and went on to lead a fulfilling life as a respected educator in both Chicago and Indianapolis public school systems for over 40 yrs, become a national leader in Housing equality advocacy and desegregation and testify before congress when leading National Neighbors (a national organization for housing fairness).

Doris is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Luther and Brenda, Lawrence and Rita, and LeRoi and Susan. In addition, she is survived by her youngest sister Elizabeth McClendon, seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 16th, 2018 from 11-12pm at Living Word Baptist Church 4934 East 21st Street. Funeral service will follow at 12pm.
