John Roof, a man of great love and laughter. Always smiling and keeping everyone on their toes. His sense of humor of life is how I will remember him most. Always willing to do anything for anyone. He will be apart of my life forever an may heaven's gate flood with the joy and laughter the way we all will remember him. John, may the Lord bless you, until we meet again.

It's hard to think of John Roof and not smile. John was my dad's (Charlie Gerde)cousin. He was at my father's 90th birthday party last September and what a hoot they were together. You should have heard them carrying on like they were back in their twenty's again. The younger generation got a kick out of the two of them. We all did.Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful sense of humor with us. If you only met him once... you remember him for the rest of your life. Our loss is truly heavens gain. God bless and keep you John Roof.

Reading everyone's comments says it all, Fr John touched so many people from so many different places in so many different ways. No question he's smiling down and I suspect still changing lives from above. We love you Fr John

Although John was two years ahead of me at Hanover, he was a Beta brother that I always respected and looked up to. I am sorry that I only saw John one time after his graduation from Hanover. I knew he was a fine man then, and he lived a fine life. Al Flory, Hanover '62

ONLY JOHN WOULD CHOOSE ST PATRICK'S DAY TO LEAVE US. JUST HIS WAY OF SAYING I AM GOING OUT WITH THE LITTLE PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE. CELEBRATE IS WHAT HE WILL WANT THE ONES LEFT BEHIND TO DO IN HIS HONNOR. JOHN ALWAYS WATCHED OUT FOR THE LITTLE PEOPLE AND TRIED HIS BEST TO TAKE CARE OF THEM THE BEST WAY HE COULD, DOING THINGS THAT ONLY HE KNEW WAS DONE FOR OTHERS, AND NOT TAKING CREDIT, JUST SEEING THE JOY ON THEIR FACES OR EVEN A SMILE. I DO NOT KNOW OF ANYONE THAT CAME INTO CONTACT WITH JOHN THAT HE DID NOT TOUCH THEIR HEART AND WAS ALWAYS REMEMBERED. AS FOR ST PATTY'S DAY I THINK JOHN WOULD SAY;"THERE IS NO BEER IN HEAVEN, THAT IS WHY WE DRINK IT HERE".

AS JOHN SAID AT MANY A FUNERAL; "YOU ARE PUSHED OUT OF YOUR MOTHER INTO THIS WORLD TO LIVE, THEN YOU ARE PUSHED OUT OF THIS LIFE INTO HEAVEN TO LIVE:. PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER MANY THINGS ABOUT JOHN, MAY THEY ALL BE WITH HAPPINESS THAT WILL KEEP A SMILE ON YOUR FACE.

MAY JOHN REST IN PEACE, AND WE WILL MEET AGAIN SOME DAY ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Father John - we will miss you! You helped make our transition to the US so much easier as you welcomed us with open arms. You not only had a profound impact on me and my immediate family but our extended family back in the UK have very fond memories of their visits to St. Augustine's and also wish to extend their condolences to your family.Especially Midge who was the first person I ever met at St. Augustine's and introduced us to the magical world of the Apple House!

I will always remember how welcome Father John and all of the St Augie's parishoners made me and my son feel the first time we attended a service. I attended St Augies for 10 years before moving to Florida in 2003 and I will always cherish the memories of John and everyone else in the St Augies family.
