Laura Haines Obituary
Laura Haines

Carmel - Laura Ellen Haines, 58, passed away in the late afternoon of June 10, 2018. She was born in Indianapolis on March 3, 1960 to John Keith and Virginia Mae (Regenbogen) Haines and grew up in Speedway and later Zionsville, Indiana with her four siblings. Her love of music began while a student at Zionsville Junior High School. Graduating from Zionsville Community High School in 1978, she went on to pursue degrees in Business and Music Performance at Indiana University, and received her Master's degree with distinction in 1984. Over the course of her career as a professional saxophonist, flutist, and clarinetist, she performed with such groups as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Saxophone Quartet, and with such artists as Mel Torme, Florence Henderson, The Four Tops, the Manhattan Transfer, and others. As a private instructor she fostered a love and appreciation for music in countless students for more than thirty years. She was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Peter Gregory (21) and Clara Abigail Estefany (12), who survive her. In recent years she enjoyed trips with her family to Brown County, Indiana and other state parks; to Williamsburg, Virginia; and to Washington, D.C.; was frequently in attendance at the Indiana Repertory Theatre and classical music concerts in the greater Indianapolis area; and was an avid reader of Agatha Christie mystery novels. After a three-year battle with amyloidosis, she departed this world surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children, Peter and Clara; by her four siblings: John Gregory Haines of Altadena, California (John Cressey), Jennifer G. Rhoades of Zionsville (Gerald), James L. Haines of Zionsville (Julie), and Nancy C. Krumwied of Castleton (Scott); and her many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, June 17 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at her children's home in Carmel (13815 Adios Pass), arrangements having been entrusted to Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care of Zionsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Laura Haines Childrens' Fund at Indiana Members' Credit Union.
