Lorena E. Phemister

Lorena E. Phemister 85, of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Lorena was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in 1938. She attended John Herron Art School where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and was awarded scholarships to the University of Iowa at Iowa City. She received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts in 1945. She taught at the following schools; St. Francis College, Lafayette, IN (1946-1947); Mishawaka High School (1948-1950); Arsenal Technical High School from 1951 until 1984, when she retired. Lorena was interested in all forms of art and in addition to her painting, she enjoyed working with gems, metallic forms, paper art, and light sculpture. She had a keen eye for unusual architectural forms and tried to instill that appreciation in her students. She enjoyed her friendship with a special group of Indianapolis art teachers and their monthly gatherings. She was a member of the Herron Art Institute Alumnae Association and was was a member of Walnut Grove Chapel. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Susanna Phemister. She is survived by her cousin, Elsie J. DesJean (Cyril) and numerous 2nd and 3rd cousins, niece Hannelore Meyer (Franz)-Arnstein, Germany, great nephew, Franz Rolf Meyer, great niece, Petra Fligge (Thilo) of Attenweiler, Germany; great-great nephew, Kai Christian Fligge. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple. Friends may call at the funeral center from 12 p.m. till the time of the service.
