Martha J. Newbold

May 21, 1942 - April 7, 2014

Martha Newbold passed away peacefully on April 7, 2014 in the company of her son and daughter-in-law at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Marty was born in Flint, Michigan to W. Claire and E. Genevieve Baird. She later attended and graduated from Central Michigan University and married Gerald Perry, with whom her sons Michael and Kevin were born.

In 1985 she moved to Indianapolis, soon afterwords meeting and marrying Charles Newbold, who she survived.

Living close to the Indianapolis Speedway was a point of pride for her. Initially with her husband Chuck, and for years afterwards, she was a regular attendee of the 500 and Brickyard races, and would attend pre-race activities as much as she could, becoming familiar with many of the drivers, crew, and staff as the years went by. She was also a die hard Colts fan, and her son would plan Sunday phone calls in careful consideration of game time during the fall.

She was a member of the West Side Club, and was proud to be a member for many years.

In the summertime, she held dear her annual vacation to Saugatuk Michigan where she would spend time with her Michigan family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. W. C. Baird and E. Genevieve Baird (Sandberg); her brother, Richard Baird, and her husband, Charles Newbold. She is survived and will be missed by her sons, Michael and Kevin Perry, her daughter-in-law, Francie Perry; her especially beloved granddaughters Aleksey and Tegan Perry, her good friend Mark Held, her pets who kept her company for so many years, and many close friends.

A visitation for Marty will be held in Conkle Funeral Home , 4925 W. 16th St. in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 12th from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a memorial service at 3:30 p.m., also in the funeral home.
