Norman C. Kleifgen, Jr.

Greenfield - 81, passed away August 7, 2018. He was born December 26, 1936 to Norman Sr. and Mary Kleifgen. Norm attended Arsenal Technical High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He also covered sports for the Arsenal Cannon newspaper. After graduating in 1954 he attended Indiana University for one year. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, and was stationed in Germany. Upon being discharged in 1958 he began his career at Aero Mayflower. Norm then went to work as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch. While working full time and raising a family, he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and went back to college and graduated from IUPUI. Norm worked as a stockbroker for several years, then took a position at Merchants Bank as a Trust Officer. He continued his career as a Vice President at Indiana National Bank. After being involved in numerous bank acquisitions, he retired as a Vice President at Bank One. Norm was an IHSAA football, basketball and baseball official as well as an NCAA baseball umpire. He was very involved in his children's athletic activities. He served as president of St. Alban's Little League where he coached baseball and softball. He also coached various sports at St. Andrew and Little Flower Catholic schools as well as Community and Irvington Little Leagues. During retirement he was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed traveling to various historical sites. He was a member of the Indiana Historical Society.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Peg Kleifgen; and his sister, Nancy Schacht. He is survived by his wife, Marlys Jacoby Kleifgen; his brother, Steve (Elaine) Kleifgen; his children, Chris (Cathy) Kleifgen, Suzy Kleifgen (Johnnie Springman), Sally (Kevin) Elmore and Sandy (Jim) Doyle; grandchildren, Rachel Cougan, Alex Kleifgen, Kristen Kleifgen, Mitchell Elmore, Sam Elmore, Cara Flinchum, Lindsay Doyle and Jackie Doyle; and six great-grandchildren.
