Pauline Judd Harbison

96, of 110 Summit Hills Drive, Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, November 10, 2012. Mrs. Harbison was the widow of William Brundage Harbison and the daughter of the late Lewis Preston Judd and Fidella Princeton Pruitt Judd. Mrs. Harbison was born in Indianapolis, IN, on April 25, 1916. She held both a bachelor's and master's degree from Butler University in Indianapolis where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married William Brundage Harbison on September 25, 1939 whom she met at Butler University. In Indianapolis, she was a member of the Orphans' Auxiliary (now known as Auxiliary to the Children's Bureau). She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she held offices in the Altar Guild, St. Cecilia's Guild, and Episcopal Churchwomen United. She was employed as a correspondent for Women's Wear Daily and later as a secretary in the Office of the Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis; she was active in the war bond effort.

For a time, she and her husband and two children lived in Pelham Manor, NY, where Mrs. Harbison was president of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. Later, while again living in Indianapolis, Mrs. Harbison taught business, typing, and geography at Northview Junior High School for several years and retired in 1981. She and her husband retired in Tryon, NC, where they were members of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. She served on the Board and was president of the Lanier Library in Tryon. In Spartanburg, Mr. and Mrs. Harbison were members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. She was a member of South Carolina Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. Always dynamic, interested and interesting, she was an inveterate letter writer, a genealogist and lover of reading and travel.

Mrs. Harbison is survived by a son, William Judd Harbison and wife, Trudy, of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Andrea Harbison Mandel and husband, Richard of San Clemente, CA; grandchildren, Heather Harbison, Kelley Hastings and husband, Eddie, Jeremy Mandel, Daniel Mandel and wife, Allison, and Melissa Mandel; and by four great grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces, Sally Porter and her family of Lafayette, CA and Marjorie Thompson and her family of Oakland, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN, 46208-4645.
