Phyllis Eaton Carter

Died October 21, 2013 peacefully in her sleep. She was born October 7, 1931 in Normal, Illinois to the late Velde Paul and Katherine Eaton. Phyllis is an alumni of Millikin University, Tri Delta Sorority in Decatur, Illinois with her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from I.U.P.U.I.. Phyllis taught 30 years in Illinois and Indiana and voted teacher of the year from Douglas MacArthur Elementary School in 1996. She loved teaching and was greatly loved by both her students and their families. It was a joy for her to be in the classroom every day. Phyllis was a member of the Eastern Star and an active member of Southport Presbyterian Church where she loved singing with the choir.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, David (Sandy) and Mark; daughters, Katherine (Richard Lowe) and Elizabeth (Brian Smith); 14 grandchildren and 4 great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 1 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center , 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2 at Southport Presbyterian Church Toney Chapel, 7525 McFarland Blvd., Indianapolis with visitation one hour prior to service. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Southport Presbyterian Church Music Ministries is appreciated.
