Thomas Whitted Obituary

Thomas Dean Whitted, Sr., 73, Indianapolis, died June 16, 2003. He was a well-known jazz drummer throughout the Midwest, performing with Wes Montgomery, Freddy Hubbard, Jimmy Cole, Larry Liggett, as well as many other well-known jazz musicians. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during the Korean Conflict, receiving his honorable discharge in 1952. He had been married to Virtue Hampton Whitted for fifty-years. Services: Private. Calling: 11 a.m. to Noon Fri., June 20 at Flanner & Buchanan - Washington Park North Funeral Center. Burial: Washington Park North Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Isabella Whitted; son L'Overture O. "Leo" Whitted; and siblings John Henry and Oliver Whitted, Sr., Alice and Martha Smith, and Susiebelle Gunn. Survivors: daughter Tamar (Leonard) Gray; sons Pharez A. (Debra) Whitted, Henry M. and Thomas D. Whitted, Jr. and Clifton (Ruth) Jones; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters Bessie (Dr. Frank) Campbell; & Nollie J.
