Richard E. Slocum Obituary
Richard E. Slocum

An amazing husband, incredible father, supportive grandfather, and dear friend to many passed away unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, March 6th. Truly dedicated to his family to the very end, he touched many lives. Richard was born in Burlington, WI in 1940. He attend college at UW-La Crosse where he met the love his life, Judy. It truly was a story of "love at first sight".  Richard was very proud of his continued learning, receiving a Doctorate of Education from Indiana University.

From there, he had a distinguished career with Indiana University and IUPUI.  He had an uncanny ability to access the needs of others, guide with heartfelt concern, and truly change lives. It was a career lead by passion and caring for others.

As he recently stated, his "new job" of caring for the love of his life, Judy, was one of his favorites. They spent time traveling, sailing, drinking wine on the back porch, visiting friends and family, and sharing laughs every day. Saying "I love you more today yet less than tomorrow" was how they started every morning. Judy has lost her life love and partner.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years: Judith Ann Van Handel Slocum; their daughters: Catherine Slocum Wolfla and Susan Marie Slocum; their grandchildren: Andrew Christopher Wolfla and Julie Jean Wolfla; and the children's father Christopher Edward Wolfla. Richard's sister: Marcia Slocum Augat and nephew: Jon Augat.
