Robert Paul Carter

77, of Zionsville died August 9, 2011. Mr. Carter was born February 17, 1934 in Indianapolis to Paul C. and Sylvia C. Mayfield Carter; they preceded him in death. Robert was a graduate of Zionsville High School and a member of the 1953 Regional Championship Basketball team; the only "Sweet 16" team Zionsville has ever had.

Robert was known for his tireless work ethic; he was the longtime owner of Carter Van Lines Moving and Storage, a well-known land developer in Zionsville having been an integral contributor to modern day Zionsville. In addition to his work, Mr. Carter had a passion for antiques and toys. In recent years, he shared that passion with the town visitors and residents through the Carter Toy Museum & Ice Cream Parlor on Main St. in Zionsville which showcased his many years of collecting. Mr. Carter was also a member of the Zionsville Kiwanis Club and enjoyed slow pitch softball.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jean Atkinson Carter whom he wed October 10, 1953; his daughter, Mischelle "Mickey" Lynn Edwards (Dave); his son, Michael Lee Carter; his brother, Russell W. Carter; and his grandchildren, Justin, Rachel, Marcus, and Kelli.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St., Zionsville, with a funeral service being held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the church, Dr. Gary Straub officiating. Burial will follow the service at Zionsville Cemetery.
