Leslie F. House
90, Indianapolis, passed away on March 5, 2013. Born in Bumphus Mills, TN, he graduated from Crispus Attucks High School, Hopkinsville, KY. Having begun collegiate studies at Kentucky State University, he heeded the call to serve in the U. S. Army during World War II. Upon earning an honorable discharge, he returned to college at Tuskegee Institute, where he earned a B. S. in Agriculture. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Reserves and retired from the Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel. Having briefly taught school, in 1953 he was united in marriage to Cornelia Bell and together they moved to Indianapolis, IN. He embarked upon a civil service career at the Army Finance Center, later transferring to the EEOC from which he retired. He worked in the Lawrence Township School System for 12 years.
As an active member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, he was a Deacon. Community activities included Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Iota Lambda Chapter, the Indianapolis Tuskegee Alumni Club, NAACP and the Indianapolis Black Alumni Chapter.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 12 at 12 Noon at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church with visitation on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown, IN.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Cornelia; son, Ronald and brother, Willie R. House.
Memorial contributions should be directed to Indianapolis Tuskegee Alumni Club Scholarship and St. John's Missionary Baptist Church.
