Iona S. Yensco Obituary

Iona SeVerne Severson Yensco

Iona SeVerne Severson Yensco was born June 25, 1910 in Stavanger, Illinois to Carl and Elise Severson.

She attended Pleasant View Lutheran College while studying piano and violin with Mrs. Paisley. After graduating, she taught piano and studied piano at Sherwood Music School in Chicago.

She was involved with the Ottawa Music Club and was the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church until she joined the navy during WWII. She was stationed at Corpus Christie, TX, and Lafayette, IN.

After the war SeVerne married George Yensco. They moved to Woodbury NJ, then Rockville, IN and on to Indianapolis. She continued to serve as organist in several churches wherever they lived.

Both SeVerne and George enjoyed the symphony and attended the Indianapolis Symphony concerts.

They moved to the Marquette Manor retirement community for their last years. George preceded her in death in 2003.

She died in her sleep on July 27, at age 103 and is mourned by her sister, Doris; niece Nancy; nephews Keith and Roger; and great-nephew Kerry.

Visitation will be on Wednesday July 31, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Entombment: Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements: Crown Hill Funeral Home .
