Hazel E. Corwin Obituary

Hazel Englert Jumpp Corwin

95, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away early Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville. Hazel was born June 22, 1918, to John and Bertha Englert.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. Always looking for ways to help others, she was a very caring, loving and giving person. She was never happier than when she was with her family or preparing for a family gathering.

Hazel was an active member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church for almost 65 years, until her health made it necessary to move to an assisted living facility. She was a Sunday School teacher for most of those years. She also had been president of WSCS, church historian, chairwoman of wedding receptions helping many young brides, and member of the Sunshine Circle. In addition, she served on several committees, including the Administrative Board. Her church family was very dear to her. Hazel supported her daughters and helped many young girls by being a Girl Scout leader and 4-H leader. She also served on the Wayne Township (Indianapolis) 4-H board for several years. Other activities include serving the Wayne Township (Indianapolis) Historical Society and being a life member of VFW.

Hazel had several jobs over the years, however, she was most proud of working for Wayne Township Schools in Indianapolis for over 20 years. Most of those years were spent as a paraprofessional reading tutor. She had a special talent for unlocking the mysteries of reading for numerous struggling young students.

Hazel is survived by two daughters, Sandra Fink (David) of Noblesville, and Linda Arnold (Ken) of Richmond, four grandsons, Randy Fink, Bob Fink (Jennifer), Jerry Fink (Cindy), and Michael Arnold (Angela); 7 great-grandchildren, one sister, Beulah Jumpp, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herschel Jumpp; her second husband, Chester (Chet) Corwin; brother, John Edward Englert; sisters, Minnie Schmidt, Lovetta Harlan, Anna Dean, Opal Rose, plus 2 infant sisters.

Visitation for Hazel will be on Sunday, September 29th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel . Services will be on Monday, September 30th at 10 a.m. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Philip Dorrell. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 1449 S. High School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46241. Online condolences may be shared at:
