Henry Ford Day

89, of Greenwood, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 in Greenwood Village South Manor.

Known as "Ford" to many, he was one of ten children. He was born July 6, 1924 in Roxana, KY to the late Henry T. and Nellie Robinson Day. The family later moved to Connersville, IN.

He was a decorated war veteran, who served our country in both World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in a combat zone for his role in the landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Upon leaving the military, he worked as an auto mechanic at various auto dealerships around the Indianapolis area. He was known for his love of fine cars, especially Cadillacs and Corvettes and owned many in his lifetime. He was mechanically inclined and could fix almost anything that was broken. After retirement, he worked for many years as a greeter and in maintenance for Walmart stores in Port Orange, FL and Franklin, IN. He was fascinated by plants and animals and loved to watch squirrels, songbirds, and hummingbirds at the feeders.

Survivors include his daughter, Beth Schrage and her husband, Gary Schrage of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Rachel Schrage; two brothers, George Day of Collegeville, PA and Wendell Day of Connersville, IN; and a sister, Christine Volz of Connersville, IN; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, David W. Day; two brothers, John Day and Frank Day; and four sisters, Irene Craft, Elizabeth Foutch, Nelda Faber and Polly Long.

There will be no calling or services. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home . Expressions of condolence and sympathy may be directed to Memorial contributions may be made to Homes for our Troops at or to the animal welfare .
