John Everette Langdon

John Everette Langdon, 90, passed peacefully, December 1, 2013. He was the eldest of 5 children born to Everett (E.J.) and Fannie (Shirley) Langdon, October 13, 1923, in Hornersville, MO. In 1941, John enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve and achieved the rank of Electrician's Mate First Class. He was honored with the Navy and Marine Corp Medal for saving the lives of 12 capsized British sailors from turbulent waters without regard to his own personal safety. After being honorably discharged in 1946, John enrolled at the University of Missouri and earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering. 1951, he married Marilyn L. (Schmadeke) Langdon and raised their 2 daughters. They enjoyed 41 years together before Marilyn's passing in 1992. John was an engineer with the J.I. Case Co. for 40 years. In 1999, John married Johanna Torrence and lived in Lake Ozark, MO. John's lessons to his family were to work hard, put others before self, take responsibility, continue to learn, and to act with common sense, integrity, courage, dignity and honesty. John is survived by 2 daughters: Teresa L. (Steven) Holland of Carmel, IN and Nancy J. S. (Christoph) Langdon of Redondo Beach, CA, his sister, Lou (M.W.) Carter, 3 stepdaughters, grandchildren - John and Bill Holland, Jack and Anna Langdon, Francesca Tuminelly, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 wives, and 3 brothers. Donations may be made in memory of John to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation ( or to the American Legion Charities ( John was laid to rest with full military honors in Racine, WI.
