Franklin - Thomas Errol Gunning, 81, died of COVID complications on Monday, February 15. He had been hospitalized at St. Francis since Christmas Day. Tom was a Master Mason who was active in the Directors Staff of Murat Shrine. He received his 50-year pins for the Masonic Lodge (2018), Shriners (2019) and Scottish Rite (2019). He grew up in Lansford, N.D., and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Gunning Sausker (Bill); a blended family of seven children, Erica Gunning Madrid (Herman) of Cebolla, NM, Christian Gunning (Anna) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Sonja Gunning Nickels (Kelly Glover) of Littleton, Colo., Deborah Batty of Indianapolis, Leigh Williams of Greenwood, Beverly Johnson (Gary) of Indianapolis, and Jeff Camic (Tracy) of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Gunning, mother, Norene Tossett Gunning, and his beloved wife, Velda Elston Gunning. On Saturday, June 19, we'll gather to celebrate the life of Thomas Gunning, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Master Mason, Shriner and Jester. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 pm, with the Memorial service following at 2 pm, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 445 E Stop 11 Rd Indianapolis, IN 46227.
