I have always said the generation that Miss Cole comes from has always been exceptional and unique. She was blessed with a long life. However that does not lessen the hurt from the loss. I offer the family my sympathy.

As the Commander of the first all-female post of all service organizations (post established in 1919), I had the extreme pleasure of speaking with Miss "Dot" a few times last year. I am a fellow Woman Marine, and we enjoyed exchanging stories regarding how Boot Camp had changed, among other things.

We treasure her legacy, as she blazed the path for future generations.

How impressive to hear that the oldest living Marine was a woman.. Sharing my respect and thank you to Sergeant Dorothy "Dot" Cole and her family. I worked as a civilian secretary for the Marines at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, Hawaii in the 90s. They're a different breed altogether; I loved working with them! Rest in peace, hero..

My Dad was at Pearl Harbor, so any member of the greatest generation will always hold a very special and wonderful place in my heart. To all who read this tribute, do us all a giant favor and tell a veteran, and especially the precious few left from World War II how grateful we are for them next time you see one. They are the real heroes of humanity.

"Though she be but little, she is fierce". Thank you, Sergeant Cole, for your dedicated service to our country. I can't begin to spell the Marine's grunt, but I would salute you with that, too, if I could. I'll just say, "Well Done, Marine". Rest in peace, and condolences to her family. You all should be very, very proud of her. God bless and comfort you.
