MARIE DiBERARDINO Obituary
She received a B.S. in Biology and a honorary Doctor of Laws from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, a Ph.D. in Develop-ment and Genetics from the University of Pennsylvania. She was one of the pioneers in amphibian cloning with Briggs and King, the first to clone frog nuclei at the Institute for Cancer Research of the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Phila-delphia. Ms. DiBerardino was a Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science, recipient of the Jean Brachet Memorial Award of the Inter-national Society of Develop-mental Biology, Distinquished lecturer, Univ. of Oklahoma, Distinquished Achievement Award in Science from Chestnut Hill College Alumnae, Keynote Speaker at the Society of Developmental Biology Symposium at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cooper Cancer Institute in Houston. Recipient of research awards from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health and elected charter member of the Libris Society of Chestnut Hill College Alumnae. She served on numer-ous editorial boards, lectured at numerous symposia in the USA, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Society for Development Biology, the Inter-national Society of Develop-mental Biology, the Board of Corporators of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, the Committee on Science and the Arts of the Franklin Institute, the Board of Trustees of the Friends of West Catholic High School.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation Monday at 10 A.M. in St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Rd., Bryn Mawr PA 19010 and to her Funeral Mass following at 11 A.M. Int. Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, an offering in her name to The Adelaide and Marie A. DiBerardino "'48 Endowed Scholarship" at Chestnut Hill College, 9601 Germantown Ave., Phila. PA 19118,- would be appreciated.
