MARY COATES Obituary

COATES

MARY WINIFRED (Concannon), of the Five Ponds Community of Warminster, Pennsylvania passed away in the loving company of her seven children on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Mrs. Coates lived in Galway, Ireland before moving back to the east coast of the United States where she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mary and Thomas Lyons. She later met and married John J. Coates, Jr. on October 17, 1953.They raised a family of seven children, four boys and three girls.
Her children celebrate her as a humble woman, generous of spirit with a quick smile and gracious heart, but perhaps her greatest gift was her devotion to family, and all that she taught them about compassion and love. She instilled in them an unwavering bond of love and commitment for each other, one that will never be broken.
Her friends knew her as a considerate and joyous woman, of enduring loyalty and concern. She was a talented, though modest, artist, a caring, compassionate soul, deeply devoted to her church and faith.
Among their countless blessings, her children would like to thank their dear mother for: the 67,054 presents under the Christmas tree, 7,000 trips to the park district pool, 2.6 million loads of laundry, 25,678 brown bag lunches for school, and the encouragement and support that led to seven college diplomas.
Mrs. Coates was preceded in death by her husband, John, shortly after their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2004, and her sister, Catherine Gilroy and brother, James Concannon.
She is survived by her children: John J. Coates, III, Stephen T. Coates (Sharon Barrett), Christopher J. Coates (Susan), Nancy M. Coates (Edward Ellis), JoAnne M. Coates, Gregory M. Coates and Barbara E. Coates, and her two grandchildren: Bradley M. Coates and Stephanie A. Coates.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. in SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME 431 N. YORK ROAD, Hatboro and to attend her Funeral Mass on Monday at 10:30 A.M. in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 605 W. Street Road, Warminster. Her interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Feasterville. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to: Saint Joseph Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, Pennsylvania 19031. So sorry to hear about your Mom but if you believe in heaven and God, Your Dad would have greeted her there. My Mom said she saw Daddy just before she couldn't communicate anymore. I know she will be at peace now.

I will always remember Mary Coates as an incredibly kind, gentle, strong woman who opened up her home to me while I was a foreign student at Penn State. Mary and the Coates family have a special place in my heart. Rest in peace Mary.
