HAROLD HOLMES Obituary

Harold "Hal" Holmes Nov. 22, 1920 ~ March 9, 2010 Resident of Alameda Harold Holmes passed peacefully from this life on March 9, 2010 at age 89. He was a proud WWII veteran, flight instructor and B-25 pilot in the Army Air Force. A general contractor for 53 years, active until age 82, Hal held one of the longest-active licenses in state records. With a tireless work ethic, he built a school, supermarket, houses, nearly 900 residential additions and over 650 decks. Hal's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Delfina Carrai Holmes; son Terry (Sheila) Holmes; daughters Gay (Jim) Gaube, and Mary (Jim) Conway; and 5 grandchildren: Jack, Steve, and Mary Beth Gaube, Megan and Matthew Holmes; and his brother Lionel Holmes. Son of the late Manuel Holmes and Mary Agnes Holmes, he was pre-deceased by his brother Elmer Holmes and sister Dolores Souza. A celebration of Hal's life will be held at 1pm, Sunday, March 14 at the Italian American League, 2712 Encinal Ave., Alameda, CA. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

I was so sorry to year about Harold's passing, I occasionally saw him walking down Otis drive looking quite good. My family has known him for many years and he will be missed, My father is 93 and Harold and Max Smith had been friends for many years, Harold came by to visit when he could and it was greatly appreciated by my father, All our love,
