Dr. Harry Sam Dvorsky passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2014, with his loving wife by his side. He was 90 years of age.
Dr. Dvorsky, born in Romania on March 25, 1923, the son of Rabbi Meyer and Rachel Dvorsky, was brought into this country as an infant and raised during the depression. An excellent student, Dr. Dvorsky graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1947, enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War. He was a board certified General and Thoracic Surgeon, and served as Chief of Surgery, Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Chief of Staff at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, CA. He was a brilliant surgeon, an avid tennis player, and a leader in the Jewish community. With great dedication, his career in medicine for fifty years touched the lives of thousands of people throughout the East Bay. Dr. Dvorsky will always be remembered as a caring, loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Dr. Dvorsky was predeceased by his great grandson Aiden James Thenemann. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Isobel, his three children, Jay, Kathy Weiner (Steve), and Daniel (Miriam), five grandchildren Rachel Shelowitz, Jennifer Thenemann, Jordan Weiner, Drew Dvorsky, Jake Dvorsky and three great grandchildren, Chase, Avery and Brooks Thenemann.
Services will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 12th at the Home of Eternity at 5000 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eden Hospital Medical Center Foundation.
