David Stuart Lott

David Stuart Lott 19432018 David Stuart Lott of Beaufort South Carolina, died peacefully at his home on June 19. He was 74 years of age. David was born Aug. 26, 1943, in Hartford, Connecticut. His father John Francis Lott, an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps, was deployed to North Africa at the time. His mother, Carolyn Rankin Prann Lott, raised him in Connecticut until 1945, when the couple moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania David attended Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh; received a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University, an M.A. in history from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. He was a partner in the firm Foley & Lardner and practiced law in both Milwaukee and Chicago. David served his community in many capacities, most recently on the board of the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority. David is survived by his wife, Susan Helena Bonnebakker Appleton, of Beaufort; his four children: John Jefferson "Jay" Lott of Baileys Harbor WI, Katherine Lindsey "Katie" Lott of Milwaukee WI, Sarah Sturgis Lott and husband Peter J. Mervis of Victor ID, and Edward Francis "Ted" Lott of Cooperstown NY. He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret Sturgis Lott of Ephraim WI and his brother, Jeffrey Lott of Yorklyn DE. He is fondly remembered by his step-children Lindy Morris Fishburne of San Francisco CA, Nathan Cooper Appleton of Seattle Washington, Amy Appleton of Bellingham Washington, and Sarah Appleton of Paris France. David leaves four grandchildren: Cecilia Carolyn Schnorr, Rose Helen Schnorr, Smith Ellison Mervis and Trevor Jeffery "TJ" Mervis David was preceded in death by his parents and by his second wife, Sally Morris Lott. He adored his children and grandchildren and enjoyed his summer home in Door County Wisconsin, where he could be close to many members of his family. The family will be receiving friends at home Saturday, June 30th from 11am 1pm . A second ceremony is planned in Door County Wisconsin, on August 12th 2018, details to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation, or Friends of Caroline Hospice. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
