Dr. Frederick Austin Craig Funeral services for Dr. Frederick Austin Craig will be held 11AM, Thursday June 14, 2018, at Queen Chapel AME Church, 114 Beach City Road Hilton Head Island, SC. Interment will follow at the Joe Pope Cemetery 720 William Hilton Parkway Hilton Head Island, SC. The public may view Dr. Craig from 10AM until the hour of service. Dr. Frederick Austin Craig, affectionately known as "Skeeter" or "Sonny," transitioned on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at his Hilton Head Island residence. Born in Selma, AL, he was the youngest of three children born to the late Sarah Frances Matthews Craig and Thomas Craig. He graduated from R.B. Hudson High School, Selma, AL, in the Class of 1950; Fisk University (1954); Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry (1963); and completed an internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1967. Dr. Craig served his country in the United States Army. Dr. Craig was a faithful member of Queen Chapel AME Church where he was involved as a member of the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry and the Men's Club. His community involvements were numerous and included: Life Member of the National Dental Association, member of Epsilon Mu Boule, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Lincoln Dental Society, and a dedicated supporter of Meharry Medical College. Surviving are his devoted wife, Shirley Turnley Dorsey Craig; his three children: Maria Theresa (Celso) White, Martin (Rowena) Dorsey, and James Dorsey; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
