Rickey Oliver Koenig Rickey Oliver Koenig, 81, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Hampton Regional Hospital Hampton, SC. Rickey was preceded in death by his parents Eunice Varn Koenig and Sgt. Major Vernon Koenig. Rickey is survived by his wife Karen Koenig, daughter, Denise Koenig Briggs, granddaughter Marie Briggs sisters Verna Gohrs of Lake Mary, Fla., Debra Mauldin of Snellville, Ga and Laura Elvers of Hanahan, SC. Rickey died from complications due to long term illnesses. Ricky lived the majority of his life in Beaufort, SC. However, in 2015, he was forced to relocate from his home of 52 years via local Eminent Domain for the construction of First Street of the Boundary Street Project. Rickey was a native son of the city of Beaufort where he attended Beaufort Elementary School, now USC Beaufort Performing Arts Center. Rickey graduated high school from Jamaica High School, Long Island, NY. In 1954 he joined the US Air Force and served as a Loadmaster in the North East Air Command. Rickey was a Beaufort business owner and master automotive mechanic for 35 years. He also worked as a US Postal rural carrier for 5 years. Rickey served as Senior Deacon at the Port Royal Masonic Lodge in 1986. After retiring from his automotive repair business, he became interested in the repairing of mechanical clocks and was awarded a service center for both Howard Miller and Ridgeway Clock Company's. He was a european car and motorcycle enthusiast and also enjoyed camping and fishing. Rickey will be laid to rest Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Visitation, Services, and Burial will be begin at 11:00am at Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
