DIANE REED Obituary
DIANE LYNNE REED (nee Pruitt) October 27, 1939 November 28, 2018 Born in Pasadena and reared in Mt Baldy, CA. She graduated from the Mt Baldy Village School (1952), Chaffey High (1956), Chaffey College (AA, 1958), University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA (BA, 1960) and Arizona State University (MA, 1973). She married David Reed in 1958 and eventually became mother of three wonderful children and grandmother to three loving grandchildren. She was an excellent first grade teacher in Mt Baldy, Mesa, Arizona and Long Beach, CA. With her husband she co-founded the Long Beach Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity (now the Greater Los Angeles Affiliate). Developing a partnership with very low income working families in our area this affiliate has constructed over 1,000 homes and is on pace to continue construction at a rate of 100+ houses per year. In her retirement years, she joined two chapters of the Assistance League; one in Rancho Cucamonga where she was active in Las Tias and in Long Beach where she was active in Las Hermanas. In her Long Beach Assistance League activities, she became a leader in several major committees and starred as a puppeteer in Kids on the Block. There she used puppets to help middle school children learn to face various social problems. She is survived by her sister Paula and her husband Fred Carter, her daughter Robin and her husband Alan Riggle, her daughter Cathy and her husband Kayne Wolfe and her son Michael and his former wife and now best friend, Jessica Reed. She is also survived by her three grandchildren; Ashley Riggle, Willow and River Reed. She will be greatly missed by all her family, her many friends and especially by David, her loving husband of 60 years. Memorial services are planned in Long Beach and Mt Baldy. In Long Beach, her service will be held on Saturday, January 26 at 2:00PM in the Bay Shore Church. In Mt Baldy, the service will be held on Sunday, January 27 at 2:00 PM in the Village Church. No flower arrangements, please. However, those in attendance are invited to bring a favorite long stemmed flower which will be used to create a BOUQUET OF FRIENDSHIP.
