Gene Yancey Obituary
Gene Yancey Sept. 2, 1943 - Sept. 3, 2018 Gene Yancey, loving husband, devoted daddy, "Grandpa Gene", and "Pop" took his final flight on September 3, 2018. Jesus promoted him to an angel and gave him his eternal wings. He is now flying high with no more pain or suffering after a brave fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy, their three children: Melissa Seybert (husband Chris), Shawn Yancey (wife Rebecca), and Kimberly Javier (husband Rommel), six grandchildren: Caleb, Callie, Chase, Jordan, Camden, and newborn Emily Jean, and siblings: Joe Yancey, Ann Mora, and Linda Percival. Gene was preceded in death by Janet Yancey (wife 1966-1977). Gene was born in Jacksonville, Texas to Virginia and Homer Yancey. He was a long-time resident of Alta Loma, California. Gene will always be remembered for his love of adventure. At the age of 16, he earned his private pilot's license. One of his many accomplishments was becoming a certified flight instructor and licensed airframe and power plant mechanic. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 while working at the General Electric Iron Plant in Ontario, CA. Gene was a hardworking man, excellent provider, and "adrenalin junkie." Anyone who knew him, loved his passion for telling stories about serving in the Vietnam War aboard combat helicopters, his wild boat racing during family vacations on the Colorado River, and driving at top speed on any open stretch of highway. He enjoyed life and never met a stranger! Gene's faith in God and love for his family made him our greatest hero! A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday, September 21st at noon in the Church of Our Heritage, Forest Lawn Covina Hills, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA 91724.
