Margaret M. Matich Obituary
Margaret Matich, 92 of Colton passed away peacefully on December 16, 2017. Margaret, raised in Lake Elsinore, was the daughter of Frankie and Malcolm McIntyre. As walnut and apricot farmers, her family often provided a meal for those in need during the Great Depression. Throughout her life, Margaret embodied her family’s strength and kindness. Always a diligent student; she graduated from Elsinore High School and attended the University of La Verne for higher education.

Margaret was introduced to John “Jack” Matich upon his return from WWII and they married in 1946. She focused on the family, raising their four children as Jack grew the family’s highway construction business. After Jack’s death in 1983, Margaret remained a partner in Matich Corporation until 1999. Most importantly, she provided unconditional love, warmth, and support for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over the decades.

Margaret was a supporter of many community organizations, activities and charities often providing both her time and financial support. In Colton, she was a member of the Colton Historic Preservation Commission and a founding member of the Colton Area Museum. She served terms as President for both the Colton Women’s Club and Zonta Club of San Bernardino. Margaret also served on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino Symphony.

A life-long student, Margaret always had a novel or periodical nearby and enjoyed traveling abroad. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends at the beach in Encinitas where she and Jack created a relaxing get away via a fashionable 1970’s double-wide trailer.

She is survived by her three daughters; Nikolene Isely (Edwin) from Moraga, California, Margaret Ann Matich-Kaney from Columbia, South Carolina, Williamina Matich from Redlands and her son, John Matich II from Colton; three granddaughters, Heidi Kaney Doinoff (Jeff), Kristen Kaney Hahn (Kevin), Katie Matich Padilla (Kevin); five grandsons, Christian, Nikolas and Malcolm Isely and Nikolas and Taylor Matich; five great grandchildren, Bentley Matich, Karson and Konnor Padilla, Emma Hahn and Josefa Isely.

Services will be held for family and friends on Friday, January 12th at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Redlands.
