Nancy Elizabeth Hewitt Magnusson
Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend passed away on 7/1/2018. She grew up in Mount Pleasant Michigan and spent a lot of time up in Traverse City enjoying her time on 'The Lake'. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with her BA and teaching credential. She got recruited to come out west (California) to teach kindergarten in Pomona. It was there she met her husband Chuck and they Married in June of 1959. They started their family (3 boys) in Pomona and then moved to Claremont in 1972. They made many new friends and she was very active in raising her 3 boys through the Claremont School District.
Anyone who knew Nancy, knew that she prided herself in taking care of her 'boys'. Nancy was blessed to be a sister in Christ being a long-time member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Pomona. She was spiritual and well-read in the Bible. You always knew she had access to "The Best, Most Famous people in the world!!!" She served on many Boards and Committees: Board Member of Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center Foundation where she was integral at helping establish the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center at PVHMC, Board Member at University Club of Claremont, Board Member of the Citrus College Foundation, Assistance League of Pomona.
She was a long-time resident of Claremont, CA but more recently had relocated to St. Matthews Home for the Elderly in La Verne. Nancy is survived by her husband Charles, sons: William T., his wife Debra, their children, Alyssa, Adam and Carli of Madera, Ahnna (Patrick McLaughlin) Cotati, CA. -James A. wife Tracy Daughter Michelle of Thousand Oaks, CA, son Nicholas of Redondo Beach, CA and -Robert C., his wife Sanna, sons Matt and Ben of Tustin, CA. Sister Cyndy Newton (Chuck) Traverse City, Michigan., Step brothers James W. (Barb) Logie, Jr., of Naples, Florida, John H. (Susie) Logie, of Grand Rapids, and step sister Shane L. (Chuck) Rood, of Tucson, Arizona.
We would also like to thank all of the Staff at St Matthews and nurses at Hillcrest Cedar Court and Woods for their support in helping mom over the last couple of years.
Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Nancy's Life Service at Pilgrim Congregational Church Saturday July 7th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the PVCH Womens Auxillary at
