DONNIE LAZZAROTTO Obituary

DONNIE DOMONICK LAZZAROTTO

May 2, 1955 – Apr. 22, 2025

Donnie Domonick Lazzarotto was born in Blythe, California to Aurileo and Antonia Lazzarotto on May 2nd, 1955. Donnie proudly grew up in the small town of Midland, California up until 1965 when his fathers employer, U.S. Gypsum, prompted the family's permanent relocation to Westmorland, home of the Roadrunners.

Donnie graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1973. He married Anna Marie Garcia in 1974 and also enlisted in the U.S. Army that same year. Donnie has four children: Jacqueline (Jacki), Jina, Domonick, and Aurileo.

Upon his return from service, Donnie attended IVC and graduated on the dean's list with a degree in Sociology in 1980. After a few years employed with Imperial County probation, Donnie began his career with the U.S. Border Patrol in 1982. Donnie enlisted with the Army National Guard in 1985.

The many friends and family that Donnie touched is universal. Midland, Blythe, Westmorland, Brawley, and Las Vegas is where he lived, got around and you definitely felt his presence there. Donnie was outspoken. With such candor, he either befriended you, offended you, or had you laughing hysterically. It was all in good nature.

Donnie had a heart of gold. As cliché as it may sound, he would literally give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar. If you were struggling and needed to talk, or requested a ride in the middle of the night, he would always take your call. His family, friends and acquaintances were so vast because of his personality and his involvement in AA/NA, and various charitable and community groups. Most recently, he had even added pickle ball to his resume.

To many, he was best known as Grandpa Donnie. A diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Angels, and boxing. He loved The Wizard of Oz, Mott The Hoople, ELO, Rod Stewart and David Bowie. His favorites in life were so simple: Converse, Levis, and a Pendleton. He found that watermelon, cherries, and ice cream were absolutely delightful. In the fall and winter he enjoyed attending public and private events so he can put on his best suit, which always included his trench coat, suspenders and a fedora. Donnie always found the moon so mesmerizing. He would never miss a nightly cruise with his grandpups to catch a glimpse of it.

Donnie was preceded in death by his spouse Anna Marie Lazzarotto; his mother Antonia Lazzarotto; father Aurileo Lazzarotto; brother Ricco Lazzarotto; and sister Bruna Lazzarotto Oberst.

He is survived by his daughters Jacqueline (Octavio) Banaga and Jina (Anthony) Jauregui; sons Domonick (Yvonne) Lazzarotto, and Aurileo (Monique) Lazzarotto; brother Jack (Sylvia) Lazzarotto; sister Sonia Galvez; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held on Friday, June 13th 2025, beginning at Frye Chapel in Brawley at 8:30 a.m. followed by graveside services at Riverview Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Reception will immediately follow at Hidalgo Hall.

Our deepest condolences to the Lazzarotto family. We´re so grateful to have gained Donnie as a friend through Pickleball. Though our time with him was short, he left a lasting impression. Donnie had a sense of humor, a competitive spirit, and always made a point to acknowledge and appreciate everyone´s playing style. Even on the days he didn´t play, he´d still show up to hang out and share stories. Donnie was a special part of our Pickleball family, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Rest peacefully, Donnie.
With love,
Johnny & Jamie
