ESTELA GARCIA

A beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and great- grandmother, Estela Garcia passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family.

Estela was born January 2, 1940, in Mexicali Baja California, where she attended Colegio Frontera and completed her education. In April of 1958, she married the love of her life, Andres Lopez Garcia.

Estela was a loving wife, mother, and a wonderful homemaker. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico. Her faith was not something she simply believed in, it was something she lived. Whether through prayer, encouragement or quiet acts of kindness, our mother touched the lives of so many. She had a servants heart and found great joy in helping others. From volunteering in her church and community to being a constant source of love and support to her family and friends, she gave of herself generously and without hesitation.

She was part of the founding group 'Sociedad Del Altar' and volunteered her time for many years helping the church in Calexico and across the border with the Madres Adoratrices.

Estela also spent time with her cafecito group, 'Las Olgas' that originated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy, for more than 42 years. She was also a member of the Women's Lions Club in Calexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Esperanza Cortez; brother, Roberto Cortez; sisters, Abigail Guerrero, Margarita Coronado, and Raquel Covarrubias; parents-in-law, Maria Jesus and Austacio, Garcia; brother-in-law, Lorenzo Garcia; sister-in-law, Irma Lucero; daughter-in-law, Maria Garcia; and son-in-law, Mark Anthony Luna.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Andres Lopez Garcia, and her children: daughters, Yolanda Cordero (Gerardo); Norma Gallegos (Robert); Estela Castillo (Julian); and Rosy Luna; sons, Andres Garcia and Alonzo Garcia (Amelia); 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brother, Gustavo Cortez; and sisters, Perla Cortez, Evangelina Rodriguez, and Esperanza Aguiar.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico. With a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico, followed by burial at Mt. View Cemetery.
