Maria Hernandez, 77, of El Centro passed away on January 4, 2021 of COVID-19 at El Centro Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 11, 1943 in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Married to Reyes Hernandez in June, 1964. Maria was a devoted mother, and grandmother. Her love of family was manifested in her delicious meals prepared for her family. An avid gardener, she brought green beauty into her world through her care and attention. Maria was a 55 year member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro, where she found joy as a member of "Las Guadalupanas" and peace in her faith. She enjoyed her time with her ZUMBA group over the past years, and her friendships were rich, especially so among the ladies of "Abejitas Latinas Club del Valle Imperial" following the passing of her husband. Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reyes Hernandez; parents, Jacoba and Jose Guadalupe Lopez; brothers, Chuy, Serafin, and Pepe Lopez; sisters, Lena Gonzalez and Victoria Guerrero. She is survived by children, Norma Pechtl (Darrell) of Imperial, Hilda Enriquez (Javier) of Oceanside, Becky Teran (Jesus) of Imperial, Tony Hernandez (Veronica) of El Centro, as well as her grandchildren, Javier Jr., Melissa, Tony Jr., Kimberly, Lillian, Kennedy, Zoey, Alec and Lucas; and her great-grandson, Drew; Maria is also survived by her siblings, Flor Sandoval and Cruz Lopez. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Judes Research Center or to the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert. Services will be private.
