1952 - 2019

Yuvanda Vonda, was the 5th of seven children born to Chuck and Mary Valenzuela on October 26, 1952, her mothers 30th birthday. She enjoyed growing up with five brothers and one sister. She declared herself to be the baby of the family, a title she treasured all her life. During high school, she attended cosmetology classes in El Centro. After high school, she attended Kelsey Jenny Business School in San Diego. Some of her employment positions were with I.C. Sheriffs Office, Desert Properties and IV Home Health Agency. In 1975, Vonda married Robert R. Montoya. They had their only son, Robert Jr. after 20 years of marriage and after being told she would be unable to bear children. Needless to say, Robert Jr. was the joy of her life and kept her busy being the team mom to every one of his sports teams. Robert Jr. was his mothers primary caregiver for the last two years of her life. Although divorced, Vonda and Robert Sr. remained friends through her last days. Vonda was blessed with a BFF, Lupe Zazueta Soto, a cancer survivor herself, who remained in constant contact throughout her cancer journey. The entire Soto family were related by love to Vonda and her son, Robert Jr. They shared many family and holiday times together. Vonda will be especially missed by Lupe, her husband Greg Sr., their sons Greg Jr., Gabriel, Jonathan and grandson, Greg III. Vonda was well known for her baking skills and was in constant demand to make cakes for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. Her proudest achievements were making the cakes for her fathers 80th and 90th birthdays, wedding cakes for her nephew, Jason, and niece, Nikki, as well as the anniversary cake for Greg and Lupe Soto. In addition to baking, Vonda enjoyed cooking, using every spice ever made! She collected cookbooks, cake plates, bundt cake pans and owls. She loved the color purple. She was a happy and outgoing person and could be counted on to help her family and friends whenever needed. She was preceded in death by mother, Mary Trujillo Valenzuela in 1996; brother, Rosario "Pinky" Valenzuela in 2004 an sister-in-law, Angie O'Campo Valenzuela in 1976.
