John Moreno Sr., 100, of El Centro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 9, 2015.
He was born on August 14, 1914 in Santa Ana, CA. On December 24, 1934 he married Lupe Carrillo in El Centro where they treasured 80 years of marriage together. Papa John was a ranch foreman prior to becoming a maintenance worker for the City of El Centro, where he worked for more than 20 years. After his retirement he kept busy maintaining his "casitas", visiting the swap meet, and using his craftsmanship to build birdhouses. Papa John was always the life the party and his sense of humor was contagious. Papa John will be greatly missed, especially by his family.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Alice; mother, Luz Olviedo; brother, Alfonso Moreno, Sr. and sisters, Emma Mateos and Carmen Valenzuela.
He is survived by the love of his life, Lupe Moreno; his four children and their spouses, John and Lupe Moreno, Andrew and Delma Moreno, and Rosemary and Manuel Wimer all of El Centro and Cecilia and Henry Toledo of Encino, CA. His legacy will live on through his 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grand children and 16 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro. Mass will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
