Jennifer Elizabeth (Scully) Merkley, 33

Jennifer Elizabeth (Scully) Merkley, 33, of Lafayette, passed away at 8:47 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Indiana Veterans Home. Born in Princeton, New Jersey on August 14, 1979, she was the daughter of Douglas Scully of Groton, Connecticut and Patricia (Filippi) Scully of Belle Mead, New Jersey. Jennifer graduated from Montgomery Township High School in 1997 in New Jersey. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Recreation Therapy at Indiana State University in 2002, where she was a member of the Mortar Board Honor Society, and her Masters Degree in Social Work from IUPUI in 2010. She was a social worker.

On October 26, 2002, Jennifer married Thomas "Tom" Merkley in St. Anthony, and he survives. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and American Legion Post 492 Auxiliary. She loved playing scrabble and she was an avid flute, piccolo, and piano player.

Surviving with her parents and husband is a son, Anthony James Merkley, at home.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Frederick "Fred" Scully.

Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service at St. Anthony Parish in St. Anthony on Saturday; Father Tim Tenbarge officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Parish Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
