Gwendolyn Lehe

Gwendolyn J. Bechert Lehe, 82

Gwendolyn J. (Bechert) Lehe, 82, formerly of Remington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at her daughter's home in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was born September 1, 1930, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to the late Eduard F.C. Bechert and Lola E. (Skinner) Bechert. She graduated from Remington High School in 1948.

Her marriage was to Arthur Junior Lehe on December 9, 1951, at the Remington United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1996.

Growing up, Gwendolyn was in 4-H and girl scouts and spent much of her time on their family farm raising cattle, hogs, horses and over 1,000 laying hens. She detassled corn and when she got older, she would drive the B-John Deere with a bailer on the back. After she got married, she continued to help on the farm, and would take the farmers homemade meals and serve them on the tailgate. She was so proud of their "Hoosier Homestead" farms in Remington, which have been in her family for over 100 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Remington United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of Alpha Zeta Sorority.

Gwendolyn loved flowers and would make beautiful flower arrangements for the Farmers National Bank Flower Show, winning many ribbons and awards. She enjoyed cooking and baking, was known for her homemade ice cream, and she was a great storyteller.

Surviving are two children; Bonnie J. Lehe of Jacksonville, Fla., and Samuel A. Lehe, of Remington.

Gwendolyn said, "God Bless my Heavenly Father and thanks for my three granddaughters, Christie M. Mitchem, Nichole E. Lehe and Heather M. Lehe." She also had a new great-grandson, Jayden Conner Allen-Lehe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her twin sister Gawanda Bechert, an infant brother, Richard Gunnar Bechert and her oldest brother, James Bechert.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. EST Monday, February 4, 2013, at Remington United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be held there at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, February 5, 2013, with the Rev. Mary van Wijk officiating. Interment to follow at Remington Cemetery.
