J. Bruce Smith, 76

A much loved, father, grandfather, great grandfather, dear friend and mentor, J. Bruce Smith, 76, of Columbus, Montana, passed away peacefully at his home on his birthday, October 17, 2012. He had bravely confronted and fought cancer. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana. He resided in Fort Wayne, Indiana until he retired in 1998 when he moved to Columbus, Montana. He graduated in 1958 from his beloved Purdue University from the School of Management. He was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association.

Bruce's extensive career began as a customer service representative with Commercial Credit Corp. in West Lafayette. In 1967 he accepted a position with Indiana Bank and 31 years later, he retired from Summit Bank as Senior Vice President. Bruce had the ability to bring laughter into every situation. This combined with his genuine personality and integrity made him a true friend to many and a leader throughout his career.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Shirley and wife Betty. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Musick; son Tom Smith; daughter, Pam Brieul all of Sarasota, Florida along with five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. at his home in Montana. All are welcome. Memorials may be made to the Purdue Alumni Association, 403 West Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
