Louis Edward Klein, 100

Louis Edward Klein, 100, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Lafayette, passed away at Levine & Dickson Hospice at 9:58 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013.

Born August 20, 1912, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Leo and Anna (Gottlieb) Klein. He honorably served in the U.S. Army Aircorps during WWII.

Louis married Audrey Louise Wallace on January 14, 1944, in Berkley, Calif. and she preceded him in death on March 14, 1988. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller from March 1946 to December 1976 at Midway Airport in Chicago, Huntington, West Virginia Airport and Purdue University Airport.

Surviving are his two daughters, Susan L. Klein, of Lincoln, Neb. and Leslie K. Wilkinson, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; his son, Edward W. Klein (wife: Linda Trapkin), of Solvay, NY; his sister, Helen Klein of Ludington, Mich.; two grandchildren, Jeffrey D. and Andrew E. Wilkinson and his dear friend, Alan Christiansen, of DesPlaines, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David L. Wilkinson and his dear friend, Kristine Christiansen.

Visitation one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Monday, January 21, 2013, at Hippensteel Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin A. Bowers officiating. Burial to follow at Spring Vale Cemetery.
