Jerome M. Goldman

Jerome M. Goldman, aged 91, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Westminster Village, West Lafayette, Indiana, after a brief illness. He was born October 20, 1922 in Camden, N. J., to the late Morris Goldman and Edith Tietelman Goldman, and had lived in West Lafayette since 1953. On January 22, 1949, he married, Sylvia I. Imber, in Philadelphia, and she preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Stanley D. Goldman, of West Orange, N.J. He graduated from Camden High School in 1940 and enrolled in Purdue University. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served with distinction, flying B-29's in the Pacific Theater from July 1942 through April 1946. He then returned to Purdue, where he received his B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering degree in 1947 and his M.S. degree in Education in 1965. Upon graduation in 1947, he went to work as a flight officer for United Airlines. In 1953 he returned to Purdue University, to serve as a pilot and as Director of Flight Operations and engineering for Purdue Aeronautics Corporation and later Purdue Airlines, Inc., Purdue's "teaching airlines," which were instrumental in providing flight training to Purdue professional pilot students in the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. Following his career at Purdue, he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, Senior Member of the Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1154 and American Legion Post No. 11. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel ,1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Lynn Treece Boys and Girls Club of Lafayette, IN.
