Evan Thoennes Obituary

Evan Thoennes

Evan Charles Thoennes, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, promoted to glory on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in St. Petersburg, Florida, aged 27.

Evan was born in Houston, Texas on March 24, 1993 to Cindy (nee Shaffer) and Gordon Thoennes where he lived until his family relocated to Fishers, Indiana. He graduated from Fishers High School in May 2011, and upon graduation attended Purdue University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction Management in May 2015. Evan was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

Upon obtaining his degree, Evan began working at Power Design, Inc., based in St. Petersburg, Florida, as a Project Engineer and rose to the level of Project Manager which was his position at the time of his passing. Power Design, coincidentally, afforded Evan the opportunity to return to Houston, Texas to assist in project completion. Evan loved his work, his friends, and coworkers at Power Design.

Soccer was Evan's long-time passion, from youth through college, and as an adult. He also enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities, and loved being near the water. He was a sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering his Purdue Boilermakers and Indianapolis Colts.

Evan will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, beautiful smile, calm demeanor, loving heart, and deep, kind soul.

He leaves behind his beloved parents; sister, Sara (Daniel) Thoennes Cline; nephew, Isaac Cline; uncles, Greg (Kathy) Thoennes, and Gerald (Lisa) Shaffer; cousins, Jessica (Matt) James and their children Jonathan and Savannah, Matt (Hope) Thoennes and their children Lylah and Collins, Katherine (Brendon) Santolin, Michelle Shaffer, and Lauren Shaffer; and step-grandmother Penny Carmichael Shaffer.

Evan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Thoennes, Bob and Vera Densborn, Jerry Shaffer, and Patricia Shaffer.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Road in Fishers, with Father Thomas Haan officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Humane Society for Hamilton County, SPCA Tampa Bay, or St. Louis de Montfort Food Pantry (checks should be made payable to St. Louis de Montfort with a note in the memo line Sally Burton Food Pantry in memory of Evan Thoennes).

Crystel Maxwell

March 4, 2022

Hello Cindy and Gordon, this is Crystel Maxwell, formerly Wikstrom. I just learned about Evan and am so heartbroken. Connor and I share so may fond memories of him, I loved that kid. He was my sous chef and a comedian whenever he was at our house. We still laugh about some of the things he said or did. He was Connor's best friend during out time in Indiana and I was always grateful for him accepting Connor as a friend when we were new to town. I cannot express how sorry I am. You will be in my prayers. Love, Crystel
