John Paul Stonebraker Sr., 84

John Paul Stonebraker Sr., 84, of Independence, passed away at the St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette, on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 12:22 a.m.

John was born in Fountain County, Indiana, on March 24, 1929. He was the son of the late Robert and Susie (Allen) Stonebraker. John was raised in Davis Township, Fountain County and graduated from Attica High School in 1947.

Following graduation, John began working at ALCOA in Lafayette until entering the military in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge as Corporal (T) he went back to work at ALCOA. John later joined Petrolane Gas Company in Crawfordsville and worked there until his retirement in 1991.

John was a member of the Lafayette First Assembly of God Church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 52 and V.F.W. Post # 3318 both of Attica. He enjoyed fishing and raising a flower and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed working with crafts and piddling in his garage. Most of all he Loved his Lord and Savior and helping people.

On July 2, 1953, John married Velma J. Jones in Attica, IN.

He leaves behind his wife, Velma of 59 years; his three sons, John P. "Paul" (Deborah) Stonebraker, Jr., Oxford; Michael W. Stonebraker, Independence and Todd A. (Judy) Stonebraker, Fowler; two brothers, William R. Stonebraker, Attica, and Frank C. (Barbara) Stonebraker, West Lafayette; and a sister, Sue Victory, Attica; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Stonebraker and an infant brother, Jimmy Stonebraker; two sisters, Mary Margaret Strickler and an infant sister, Carolyn Stonebraker.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, May 21st from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with John's son, Pastor John P. Stonebraker, Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Bethel Cemetery, east of Attica.
