Cody E. Green, 12

Cody E. Green, 12, of rural Flora, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 12:45 p.m. at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis. He was diagnosed with A.L.L., a form of leukemia, in late 2001. He was treated and was in remission until a relapse in 2007, treated again and was in remission until relapsing again October 15, 2011. He had been a patient at Riley since March 2, 2012. He never asked "Why Me," and fought the illness with grace and humility, never complaining about his treatment or care, saying "Thank you," to the many health care professionals that cared for him. For this, he was rewarded with Honorary Marine from the United States Marine Corps.

He was born January 27, 2000, in Lafayette, to his mother Tracy L. Adams Green and his biological father Duane E. Green, of Texas. He was in the 5th grade at Carroll Elementary School, Flora, where he enjoyed his friends and classmates who supported and helped Cody when he was able to be in school. He attended church at White Horse Christian Center in West Lafayette. He was active with Cub Scouts and enjoyed riding his dirt bike, four wheelers, swimming and the NFL team New Orleans Saints football team. Cody had a great sense of humor and he was always worried about everybody else and their well-being, he dearly loved his family.

Surviving are his mom and dad, Tracy L. Adams Green and David Snowberger, of rural Camden; two brothers, Eric and Andrew Green; two step brothers, Rollie and Bryan Snowberger, of Logansport; two step sisters, Erica and Brooklynn Snowberger, of Logansport; maternal grandparents Sherry and Curtis Adams, of Oxford; paternal grandparents Sharon "Penny" Green, of Shadeland, and Alisa Guynn St. Joseph, IL; paternal great-grandparents Jaye and Karen Stover, Sour Lake, TX; and aunts and uncles.

Cody was preceded in death by grandparents Everett Green; "GG" Stover; Marjorie and Clyde Adams; Leland and Lillis Nichols.

Friends may call Saturday, May 5, from 11 a.m. until his funeral at 3 p.m. at Carroll Elementary School, Flora. Pastor Jeff Johns officiating, private family committal service. Memorial contributions to Riley Hospital for Children, envelopes available at the school. Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora, in charge of arrangements. www.baker-abbottfh.com.

Not all soldiers are big, grown men or women. Some, like Cody, are very young when called to serve. But they have in common, with soldiers everywhere, a certain quality of strength to see their mission through to completion or to the end. Cody served well and stood tall to the end. I salute him for his strength and courage and congratulate his family on raising a true "Little Soldier."

I read your son's life story on Huffington Post.com. It touched my heart, and I will hug my children tighter tonight. Your son did not die in vein, as I believe he lived to provide us with an example of how God wants us to love each other. My God's love comfort your family now.

When God calls little children
to dwell with him above,
We mortals sometime question
the wisdom of his love
For no heartache compares with
the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world,
seem wonderful and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud,
before he can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so he takes but a few
To make the land of Heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult still
somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye."
So when a little child departs
we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children,
Angels are hard to find.

May God Bles you and this wonderful little man. He showed more courage than any adult could even imagine; certainly a life taken much too soon. May God help this family heal and enjoy the wonderful memories with their marine.

As I read this story about cody, my heart was so touched by his spirit and courage. I know he will be missed by his family and loved ones, but he is now guarding the gates of heaven and I can just see him in his Marine Uniform with a BIG HALO above his head. He was truly a fighter and deserved to be a Marine. God bless our Marines whose hearts were touched also and made his dream come true.Semper Fi, Little Marine.

God has a purpose for each of us, even in death. For most, it takes years for the survivors to hear what God is telling us when he calls a loved one home. Through Cody's passing we can learn that God wants us to be courageous and strong in life, just like Cody, just like a Marine.

Tonight I read on the internet about your brave, precious, handsome young son, brother, and Marine. My heart goes out to all of you and I salute Cody. My children died young, but they nor Cody are 'lost'. We know exactly where they are. Thanks to our dear Lord and Savior, we have confidence that we shall be together again 'on the other side'!

Cody was a sweet, kind and loving boy. I'm glad he was able to spend the night at my house with my boys just prior to his re-diagnosis. They had so much fun. He was so well behaved and was so polite. John took Cody under his wing and showed him around at school when he started at Carroll. Now Cody is in heaven and will watch over his family and with any luck, my boys, John and Cason. So proud of Cody how he battled his Cancer. He was so strong. What an honor to have known him. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Stephanie, Dave, John and Cason
