Lafayette - Effie Lenore Phillips, 78, formerly of Lafayette, passed away on 1/9/19 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, AR.

Born 7/29/1940 in Mt Vernon, IN to the late Elden and Britomarte Reece.

Effie graduated from Vernon High school in 1959

She married Quinn Austin on September 8, 1962 in Lafayette. He precedes her in death.

Graduating from St Elizabeth's Operating room Technician school in August of 1962, she was employed at St Elizabeth Hospital for 42 years. Working in labor and delivery early on, then in the emergency room.

She married Wayne Phillips on October 10, 1987 and he survives.

Retiring in 2004 they then moved to Bull Shoals, Arkansas.

Effie is survived by her husband: Wayne, her son: Andy Austin of Lafayette, step - daughter: Angie (Eric) Shehorn of Delphi, step-son: Tom (Julia) Phillips of Lafayette, her brother: James (Susie) Reece of Greensburg, her sisters: Mary Anderson of Port Orange, FL, Ruth (max) Kelley of Waldron, and Virginia (Joe) Snakovsky of Cleveland, OH, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Edwin, Irvin, Lawrence, Nathan, Ralph, John and Arthur Reece, a sister: Alberta Bannister and a granddaughter: Shayla Phillips

Effie was a member of The Bull Shoals United Methodist Church, an avid member of the quilting club and the church choir.

Friends may call from 12:30-2:00 pm at Hippensteel Funeral Home, in Lafayette, Indiana on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm. Amanda Atkins officiating. She will be laid to rest at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens.
