Elvera Isabelle Johnson

Elvera Isabelle Johnson, 98, formerly of Battle Ground, passed away at her daughters home in Bradley Ill., on Sept. 1, 2012.

She was born March 31, 1914 in Eastlynn, Ill. to Otto and Jenny (Carlson) Johnson, who both proceeded her in death.

Elvera was a proud Swede who taught her family and friends the language and heritage of Sweden.

She enjoyed in life her family and friends. She was a seamstress, taught ballroom dance, and was the owner/operator of Elvera's in Flora.

Elvera retired to home and farm life in Battle Ground in 1961. There she enjoyed the livestock, baking, gardening, flowers and birds.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Gaunce (husband: Ed), of Bradley, Ill.; Betty Jane Hulse (late husband: Kenny), of Bradley, Ill.; Jennifer Morris (husband: Harold), of Lafayette; one son, Donald Callahan (wife: Suzie), of Battle Ground; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One sister, Doris Cricks (husband: Charles), of Glendora, Calif., also survives.

She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church, of Lafayette, for over 50 years.

She attended First Church of Nazarene in Kankakee Ill.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (CST) on Thursday, Sept. 6 at First Church of Nazarene in Kankakee Ill. Services to follow visitation at 11 a.m. Family and Friends are invited to celebrate Elvera's life with a meal to follow services at the church.

Graveside services will be held at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland, Ill.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Kankakee County in Bourbonais Ill.
