Harold L. Barnhart

Lafayette - Harold L. Barnhart, 92, of Lafayette, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018. He was born on June 7, 1926 in Lafayette to the late Paul T. and Mabel P. (Metzger) Barnhart.

Harold graduated from Jefferson High School in 1944 and was immediately drafted into the United States Army. He served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1946 where he was stationed in Germany. One of his missions was to reestablish the telephone service in Ulm, Germany.

Upon his discharge from the military, Harold went to Trade School in Denver, CO to become a watchmaker. While in school he met Betty R. Hollenbaugh and on February 13, 1949 they were married in Denver. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1980. Harold later married Jenny Glenn Robinson and she preceded him in death.

Harold worked for Lawrence Bowers Electric as a Commercial Electrician until he retired at age 65. He then went to work for Arni's where he kept their ovens in working order for another 10 years.

Harold was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wood working, building clocks, gardening, and putting puzzles together. Harold was able to fix anything and his favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda Allen of Canyon, TX and Cheryl Barnhart of Lafayette and his brother, Roy (Caroline) Barnhart of West Lafayette. Also surviving are grandchildren, Carmen Gibson, Kimberly Rhodes, and Joseph (Hannah) Allen and great grandchildren, Emily Rhodes, Tyler Rhodes, Christian Howell, and Daniel, Murdock, and Henry Allen.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Howard R. Barnhart and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Wilson.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel with services following at 2 p.m. Private Family Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
