W. Lafayette - Janice Anne Prough Farkas was born on September 30, 1937 in Bluffton, IN to George and Elinor (Landon) Prough. When she was a child, the family moved to Mishawaka and Mrs. Farkas graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1955. She continued her education receiving a Bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a Master's degree from Western Michigan University in elementary education.

On November 28, 1959, Janice married Thomas Farkas. He survives. They moved to South Bend where she taught in the South Bend Community School Corporation for seven years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. During that time she was very involved in her children's activities and schools. Later in life, she worked in various retail stores. They resided in South Bend until moving to West Lafayette, IN in 2006.

During her life, Jan was involved in School Men's Wives, American Association of University Women, PEO, Purdue Alumni Association of St. Joseph County, Rotary International, and several bridge clubs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka.

Along with her husband, Jan is survived by a son, Alan, also of West Lafayette; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jayson Waterman of Connersville, IN. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Anna, Joseph, and Katherine of Connersville, Emily (Adam) Stark of Sellersburg, IN, Molly Greenwood of Bozeman, MT, Kate Greenwood of Billings, MT and great-grandchildren, Harper, Kaden, and Marlana Stark of Sellersburg.

Visitation will be Monday, May 21, 2018 at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN, starting at 11 a.m. with a funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m.
