Matthews - Jeffrey Lee Fairchild, 57, of Matthews, North Carolina, formerly of Monon, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 6, 2018.

He was born December 10, 1960 in Monticello, IN to Donald J. and Anetta M. (McCormick) Fairchild. Jeff was an accomplished sprinter, competing in the Indiana State Finals, and football player at North White High School, graduating in 1980. He went on to run track at Marian College and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education in 1984.

His marriage was to Michelle Killian on August 3, 1985 in Alexandria, Indiana; she survives.

Jeff loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing and trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota. He would visit his parents in Florida and take daily trips to Lake Okeechobee to bass fish. He also liked cars and was proud of his custom Mustang he had built.

Surviving with his wife are their children, Ashley Robbins (husband: Cory) of Siler City, NC, Brittany Fairchild of Lynchburg, VA, Derek Fairchild of Matthews, NC and Corbin Fairchild also of Matthews, NC; his parents, Don and Anetta Fairchild of Brookston, IN; two brothers, David Fairchild (wife: Marcie) of West Chester, OH and Daniel Fairchild of LaBelle, FL and two sisters, Julie Westfall (husband: Greg) of Brookston and Judy Harvey of Johnson Creek, WI.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Bradley L. Fairchild.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Clapper Family Funeral Home (197 East State Road 16, Monon, IN) and also from 3 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, August 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church (525 West Yellow Street, Francesville, IN); Pastor Dennis Gutwein to officiate. Interment at a later date in Monon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church of Francesville.
