Joyce Maddox Obituary

Joyce E. Maddox, 53

Joyce E. Maddox, 53, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 21, 2014. Born November 24, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Carol Halsey.

Joyce was a graduate of Purdue University. She spent the last several years of her life as a loving care-giver to her mother before Carol's passing, and to her children and her grandchildren.

She was a member of Victory Christian Church in Lafayette, and a former member of Brown Street United Methodist Church, Lafayette.

Known for her extraordinary creativity and her eclectic sense of style, Joyce had a great sense of humor. She could put a smile on anyone's face with a silly story, sound effect, joke, or just a mischievous grin. She definitely marched to the beat of her own drum, as anyone who knew her will attest! She had a generous heart, and was particularly devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, making her own soaps and oils, as well as doing other handicrafts. She participated for a number of years as an artisan, demonstrating and displaying her wares, at the Feast of the Hunters' Moon and other historical re-enactment festivals.

Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Emma Grady (husband: William David) of Lafayette, and Erika Maddox of Flora; and her three grandchildren, Carol, Alex and Kaila, as well as two sisters, Cynthia Nees of Indianapolis, and Karen Itin (husband: Bruno) of West Lafayette; four nieces and one nephew; two great-nephews, and one great-niece.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Victory Christian Church at 10 North Earl Avenue in Lafayette on Saturday, December 27, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Sandy Marchel presiding. Memorial donations may be made in Joyce's name to Victory Christian Church or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Joyce's mother, Carol Halsey.

My dear, funny, wacky sister, you are safe now in heaven with our mom, and with Jesus. It comforts me to know that you have been completely transformed by the love of Our Lord and Savior. Nothing and no one will ever hurt you again. I miss you and will treasure all the memories of you through the years.
