West Lafayette - Mary Carolyn (Scott) Yoder, 94, of West Lafayette, passed away at 3:45 am on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Westminster Village.

She was born November 29, 1923, in LaGrange County, IN, to the late William Arthur and Laura (Haybarger) Scott.

Mary graduated from Purdue University with distinction in 1980, majoring in Anthropology and Spanish.

Mary was a founding member of the Federated Church in West Lafayette, and had been a member of the West Lafayette City Council.

Her husband, Eldon J. Yoder, preceded her in death in 1983. Surviving are her children, Greg Yoder of Shoreview, MN, Joe Yoder (Jane Nicholson) of Portland, OR, Deb Dierckman of West Lafayette, and Gary Yoder (Kathleen) of Katy, TX. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Louis (wife, Regina), Amanda, Jeff, James, and Emily; and two great grandchildren, Fiona and Piper; all of whom knew her as "Bappie."

She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Mary was passionate about travel, both national and international. She was an avid environmentalist, and enjoyed hiking in any natural outdoor setting. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, serving as a scout leader to two generations of her family.

Mary will be remembered for her wit, her intelligence, and her compassion for others. She will be deeply missed.

Her funeral service will be on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Federated Church with Rev. John Williams officiating. Friends will be received from 1:00 pm until the service begins at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
